One-day golf tournament to be held in Pimville

All systems are almost set for the 1st annual Ngwazi Lubisi Birthday Open. The one-day golf tournament is set to take place on February 26, at the Soweto Country Club in Pimville.

In addition to Golf, The tournament is scheduled to act as a platform for young entrepreneurs as well as established business owners to engage and exchange ideas on how to revive local businesses. This was revealed by the tournament’s founder, Ngwazi Lubisi.

“In light of tough economic times I thought it was very important to create a platform where business-minded people could come and discuss ideas,” he said.
“The discussions will be around how to re-stimulate the economy, especially for local businesses who have taken a major hit in the past year or so.”

Lubisi said while he enjoyed the sport, he also found the golf course to be a great place to network and brainstorm.
“It’s a great sport and relaxing sport. It’s nothing hectic and it gives you the chance to have those conversations with like-minded people. I think it will be a great opportunity for anyone looking to brainstorm ideas and I’m confident that some great initiatives will come but of this tournament.”

He also revealed that the tournament also would create temporary employment for locals. These jobs will include waiters, security, and car ushers.
“Young people are a priority so we are looking forward to empowering some young people on the day. We’ll need waiters, waitresses, and security amongst other duties. We are also working with Othandweni orphanage – we’ll have business people discuss what we can do to give back and help the orphanage. Those are some of the key issues we are hoping to address on the day and come up with a solution that will be beneficial to the people of Soweto.”
