Social Media post about JMPD Officer, fake

JMPD refutes the piece of information.

People on social media may or may not be aware of a fake news post making rounds on various platforms about a Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Officer who is being investigated for corruption.

The fake post stated that the officer is under investigation by the SAPS, IPID and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Internal Affairs Unit, for an unspecified corrupt act.

The Spokesperson for JMPD, Wayne Minnaar said, “A preliminary investigation has revealed that a post circulating on social media platforms indicating an arrest of the officer also referred to as man of God is totally fake.”

Minnaar exclaimed that they refute such news and the JMPD Management views such allegations of corruption within the department as damning and in a very serious manner.

The matter is being investigated internally within the JMPD and externally to establish the source of the statement and to act against any individual who fabricated the fake news.

People caught irresponsibly spreading fake news on social media leading to the fruitless use of state resources stand to be criminally charged.
