Kliptown SAPS rolls out station clean up

Kliptown resident, Merie Williams said it was important for locals to support the SAPS, and she hoped that the support would be returned to the community.

“We are saying to the community and the police let’s clean up our community and what better place to start than here, at the police station.” Those were the words from newly appointed Kliptown SAPS Station Commander, Brigadier Lesley Lloyd, as he led the SAPS staff, Community Patrol Forum CPF), Community Patrol and thecommunity in a clean-up of the station on Thursday morning.

According to Lloyd, the clean-up at the station was the first of many clean-ups that would be rolled out to parts of the community. The initiative also received support from the CPF. Chairperson of the Forum, Billy Petersen, said it was important for the community to be in partnership with their local SAPS.

“I think it is of the utmost importance that the community has a healthy relationship with the police. That is why we formed CPFs. We are very pleased with the number of people that came out today, and we want to see this project rolled out into the community very soon,” said Petersen.

Kliptown resident, Merie Williams said it was important for locals to support the SAPS, and she hoped that the support would be returned to the community.

“When our SAPS announced that there would be a clean-up, as the residents around here it was very important to show our support, and show we can work hand in hand. We hope that the police can also show that support back to us. We want to see criminals being arrested and police arriving on time when we call,” she said.

Brigadier Lloyd expressed his gratitude to the community members who heeded the call on short notice.

“Most importantly, I have to say a big thank you to the community,” he said.

“It was very short notice, but to see the number of people who came out here so early in the morning is inspiring

We are grateful, the police members who participated – very grateful to them too. I believe that together with the community we will curb the high crime rate in our area,” he concluded.
