Phuti Ramara’s case postponed to February 9

The accused wants bail.

The rape and murder accused for Phuti Ramara’s untimely death made a brief appearance at the Protea Magistrate’s Court and asked to apply for Legal Aid Bail Application.

The matter was postponed to 9 February for the accused to make the application, however, the deceased young girl’s family and everyone supporting them in getting justice for her murder saw the accused’ actions as offensive and arrogant. To add on the Ramara family frustrations, the two other girls who had went home to fetch Phuti from home on the night of her death, were nowhere to be found. Sibongile Ramara said, “We have been heart broken and saddened as a family, and it amazes us that the girls who fetched our Phuti from home on the night of her passing away are now standing on the fence. They must appear in court and answer questions about what happpened that night.”

The bail application was transferred to a different court room, where it was postponed to 9 February. Cllr Elliot Khumalo accompanied the family and expressed disappointment over the fact that the accused was not showing any signs of remorse, he said, “We are not happy with the accused and his arrogantly asking for bail, knowing very well his evil deed. We demand that bail be denied this killer and rapist along with all other killers and rapists.” Khumalo, who went to the field in Protea Glen where the lifeless body of Phuti Ramara was found on the morning she was found said, “The accused must tell the truth, he must also reveal his accomplice, because from being at the scene where Phuti was found, we saw car trails and foot steps from more than one man with trails coming from the car to the spot where Phuti’ body was found.”

81-year-old Agnes Ramara, Phuti’ grandmother said, “Why is he even applying for bail. He already murdered my granddaughter, I have burried her, she can’t be brought back.”

The case was postponed to 9 February for the Legal Aid bail application.

Siphiwe Tshabangu said, “The nerve of this guy. He knows very well that the magnitude of his case is heavy and he was caught trying to flea the country. He is just being arrogant and spiteful. He should not be granted bail, because we all know that he is a flight risk.”

The accused was nabbed late December last year, attempting to flee to Lesotho.

People desiring to see GBV and Femicide diminish in SA and justice prevail can join in the support of Phuti Ramara’ family in their fight for justice.
