Soweto’s Dj Ramedy sticking to his roots

"I am someone who believes in the element of surprise," - Dj Ramedy.

The rise of Amapiano is the rebirth of South Africa’s music scene, according to Dj Ramedy, this culture is important and should be celebrated.
“For me, I want to keep it township, it’s Kasi romance in a way, that’s telling a story through music and that’s my kind of music.”

Ramedy was speaking to Soweto Urban about his hit song, Ke Nna Yo, released in September 2020 and has done reasonably well in the charts.
“People were very surprised when it came out, I don’t think anyone expected that, and the reception so far has been positive so I’m grateful for that,” he said.

Despite the sudden success of the song, the actual making of the song was very challenging, at least according to Ramedy.

“It took a very long time, credit should go to my Manager, Sizo Thekwane who gave me the challenge. Once we were done, it sounded melodic, it sounded complete but we felt that there was one more element missing. Sizo then reached out to Tee The Phoenix who brought in amazing vocals.”

The song tells the story of a girl trying to show a guy that she is the one for him. While Ramedy is happy with the success of the song, he is not sitting on his laurels, the 37-Year-Old has already begun work on a new musical journey.

“Well in terms of my sound, I can say that I’m running with Amapiano, I think we finally found our signature sound as South Africans, and there is so much pride behind it. But I’m still sticking to my roots and saying that deep house is still a very huge part of South Africa music and I want to explore that in my next project.”

Ramedy also revealed that he is now working on a single set to be released either at the end of February or early March. Asked on a sneak peek, he said he preferred to surprise music lovers.
“I’m someone who believes in the element of surprise, so people will have to wait and see. But I can promise that it will be worth the wait,” he said.
