Thusa Bantwana Feeding Scheme feeds over 200 locals in Eldorado Park

As unemployment increases, the more the need for feeding schemes

The Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) called Thusa Bantwana Feeding Scheme has been serving in the community of Eldorado and Kliptown for a few years.

Florence Steenkamp who is the founder of the NPO and a resident of Eldorado Park, extension 8 shared that during the lockdown period, the NPO has discovered that they are no longer just feeding children but they are also feeding a lot of adults since the pandemic started. Steenkamp added that she can see the levels of unemployment increasing in the community thus residents are becoming more dependable on her feeding scheme.

With the increase of residents in need of the feeding scheme and barely any sponsors, the NPO needs the community’s assistance. Thusa Bantwana Feeding Scheme is requesting residents who can donate food items such as rice, cabbage, oil, meaty bones, whatever can be donated, just so that the organisation can make meals for the residents who are in need.

“We feed three times a week. We cook on a Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, so if residents can donate food items to us on a Monday and Wednesday, we only need help with the two days. If anyone can assist us, we would appreciate it,” said Steenkamp.

According to the founder, the organisation is now feeding roughly over two hundred residents in the community.
