New community initiatives for residents in Ward 17

DA Ward 17 candidate is behind skills development projects in Eldorado Park

The Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward candidate for Ward 17; Ann Adams and the DA Youth Leader for Ward 17, Cheslin Renecke share community initiatives that they support in their ward.

Renecke explained that Injongoyami Community Projects was started last but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it had to close. The team is waiting for the lockdown restrictions to fall away so that they can open the programme to Ward 17 residents.

The skills development center is said to provide digital platforms where residents can type their CV’s and do research. Renecke added: “The DA Ward candidate for Ward 17 and the DA Youth Leader for Ward 17 fully supports this initiative. This initiative provides hope to our community because our people do not have a sustainable place where they can go and search for jobs. As the DA we are totally behind this, and it will be opened up for any ages to come in and use the facility.”

According to Renecke, some stakeholders partnered with the project and soon they will be bringing in a recruitment side where the youth will be able to get recruited by companies. The Injongoyami Community Projects will also offer training such as call center training and they will be offering life skills where they will go into the schools in the community to provide Covid-19 awareness, drug abuse awareness, and HIV and AIDS awareness.

“The aftercare which is run by Sumeriah Rooibaardt called ‘Lighten up and rise’ at the Pop Centre is also another initiative that we support. This initiative will help keep the children off the streets after school. No child should be on the streets after school once this initiative starts. The aftercare programme will provide music classes where children will learn how to play instruments, there will be computer classes. All of this will be free and the Eldorado Park Taxi Association is also part of the project where they will be fetching children from school and dropping them off at the center,” explained Renecke.

Adams added: “With a project like this, it is important to partner with the different role players like the principal’s forum in Eldorado Park. We need to schedule a meeting with the principal’s forum after the lockdown and have someone from the Education Department here too so that they can be part of this initiative. This isn’t a political thing, we as the DA are just supporting this initiative because we want our children to progress further in life.”

Please note that this initiative will only be open to the community once the lockdown restrictions all fall away.
