Phuti Ramara’s murder case postponed to February 3

Phuti Ramara's life was cut short while visiting her mother in Protea Glen, her lifeless body was found during 16 days of Activism last year.

The people from Soweto who mourned young Phuti Ramara’s death were relieved to know that her murderer is in police custody and he is due to appear in court again on 3 February for his crimes.

On 19 January the family, friends, and supporters of Phuti and her family made their way to the Protea Magistrate’s Court where the accused was to appear. The case was postponed to February, 3. The accused who had been on the run since the incident was caught trying to make his way out of the country last year.

The accused was caught on December, 29. the Communications Officer for Protea Glen SAPS, Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng said, “The suspect was nabbed on his way to Johannesburg from Tembisa, to skip the country and cross the border to Lesotho.”

After receiving a tip-off about the possible whereabouts of the suspected man, the police task team followed his trail up to Ivory Park Taxi Rank, where he was arrested.

The man who had been on the run since 7 December, the day Phuti was found dead on an open field in Protea Glen Ext 31, was also the last person seen with her.

While the accused awaits his court appearance day, Mashiteng said, “We commend the people for their vigilance and unity in making sure predators are caught to account.”
