Soweto icon, Mzwandile Nzimande laid to rest

Nzimande, who was commonly known as Wandi or DJ 1D on Kaya FM, passed away at the Olivedale Clinic in Johannesburg on 13 January 2021.

Loxion Kulca co-Founder, Mzwandile Nzimande was laid to rest earlier yesterday. The funeral service was brief and limited to family in line with the country’s lockdown COVID protocols however, a live stream was made available for friends, media, and fans.

Nzimande, who was commonly known as Wandi or DJ 1D on Kaya FM, passed away at the Olivedale Clinic in Johannesburg on 13 January 2021, at the age of 44 after contracting Covid-19 the family confirmed in a statement.

Speaking at the funeral, his younger brother, Bheki Nzimande said he would not forget the time he shared with his late brother.
“Wandi was my big brother, he had a big heart. My big brother was our hero. I will never forget the feeling I had when I was around him. I felt loved, I felt protected, “he said.

Mzwandile left behind his wife and three daughters, two siblings, and his father. Loxion Kulca was turning 22 years old at the year of his passing.

In his long list of achievements, Mzwandile Nzimande served as an Executive Producer of Live AMP, produced hit shows such as Khumbula Ekhaya, Real Gobhoza, and served as Head of Chanel at Soweto TV. In addition to creating Lokul Kreations to aid young designers in Soweto, Nzimande was also an honorary DJ at the opening of the 2010 World Cup and had started his own production company, Eish D content Universe.

Tributes continue to pour across social media platforms and radio stations for the Soweto born icon.
