After tears drinkers assault 4 JMPD officers in Protea Glen

Two Suspects arrested and charged.

The Level Three for Lockdown has proven to be difficult for people in Protea Glen, Soweto, to resist their urges to consume alcohol, they’ve even gone as far as to assault 4 JMPD officers.

The JMPD officers responded to a call about people breaking the regulations for Level Three Lockdown; upon arriving in Protea Glen ext. 7, Wayne Minnaar, the spokesperson for the JMPD said, “We found more than 200 people having a ball at an after tears gathering for a funeral.”

When the officers attempted to go on ahead and tell the people to disperse back to their homes, as they were breaking regulations, the people proved to be stiff-necked.

When the officers tried to confiscate the alcohol the people were illegally consuming, the people’s anger kindled and they began to assault up to four officers on duty.

Out of the four officers that have been assaulted; one is in serious condition with a fractured nose and left hand.

Two suspects were arrested and charged at the Protea Magistrate’s Court for Assaulting officers.

Minnaar said, “The message is that people must never hold after tears parties and never drink alcohol in public spaces during Level Three Lockdown.”
