Golden highway and intersections Eldorado Park considered Hijacking hotspot

The Eldorado Park SAPS considers the Golden Highway a hotspot for hijackings.

The Eldorado Park SAPS considers the Golden Highway a hotspot for hijackings. The consideration is based on the increase of hijacking cases reported at Eldorado Park SAPS, usually occurring along the Golden Highway and the Stockwell intersection.

The modus operandi used by the criminals committing these acts are usually through indicating to the potential victim that they have a flat tyre and that they should pull over.

We at Eldorado Park SAPS strongly urge drivers not to fall for this scam, because as soon as the vehicle stops, they exit their vehicles, point a firearm at you, and proceed to either hijack and rob victims.

In a few instances, these perpetrators either collide into the vehicle of their potential victims, with the intention that the victim will stop and exit their vehicle, and they can thereafter proceed to commit their premeditated crime.

Eldorado Park SAPS calls on all users of the Golden Highway and intersections to be vigilant at all times whilst driving. Also, road users should not stop if anyone indicates that they either have a flat tyre or that something is wrong with their vehicle.

The hijacking safety tips to follow to reduce the risk of being a hijack victim are:
-Avoid being alone in a vehicle when traveling at night.
-Do not stop at high-risk hijacking spots or secluded areas.
-Always be alert when driving. If you suspect that you are being followed by a suspicious vehicle, drive to the nearest Police Station.
-Do not pick up hitchhikers, particularly when you drive alone.
-Ensure that all doors are always locked whilst driving.
-Avoid distractions such as being on your cellphone, drinking and driving, etc.
-Increase caution at intersections: always keep a lookout for people loitering around your vehicle or for any sudden activity around your vehicle.

All road users and pedestrians should contact Eldorado Park SAPS on 011 9460300 or our SAPS Crime Stop Hotline on 08600 10111 if they notice any suspicious activity, persons, or vehicles. Your cooperation in ensuring a safer community is commended.
