Phuti Ramara’s killers caught and in custody

Young Phuti Ramara's life was cut short while visiting her mother in Protea Glen, her lifeless body was found during 16 days of Activism last year.

The man suspected to be responsible for the death and sexual assault of 21-year-old Phuti from Soweto was apprehended trying to skip the country.

The collaboration between the police and the people led to the arrest of the 35-year-old suspect who had been on the run since the incident.

Young Phuti Ramara’s life was cut short while visiting her mother in Protea Glen, her lifeless body was found during 16 days of Activism last year.

The suspect was caught on 29 December, the Communications Officer for Protea Glen SAPS, Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng said, “The suspect was nabbed on his way to Johannesburg from Tembisa, to skip the country and cross the border to Lesotho.”

After receiving a tip-off about the possible whereabouts of the suspected man, the police task team followed his trail up to Ivory Park Taxi Rank, where he was arrested.

The man who had been on the run since 7 December, the day Phuti was found dead on an open field in Protea Glen Ext 31, was also the last person seen with her.

While the suspect awaits his court appearance date, Mashiteng said, “We commend the people for their vigilance and unity in making sure predators are caught to account.”
