Many arrested in Protea Glen for breaking 9pm curfew

Those arrested would have to pay a penalty of up to R1000 or face jail time for six months.

After President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country would be returning to national lockdown level three last week, wearing face masks was made compulsory.

Not only wearing face masks, but the curfew was also decreased from 10 pm to 9 pm while the sale of alcohol was banned till 15 January.

The people from Soweto and Protea Glen had to heed the call to always wear their face masks, to not only protect themselves but the people around them as well, in light of skyrocketing Covid-19 cases and deaths.

On 4 January the Communications Officer for Protea Glen SAPS, Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng said, “No one has been arrested for not wearing their face masks in public as of yet, but many people have been arrested for breaking curfew and lockdown regulations.”

Mashiteng explained that the many people that have been arrested for breaking the regulations so far were generally arrested for walking around their neighborhoods after 9 pm.

The people that have been arrested would have to pay a penalty of up to R1000 or face jail time for six months.
