Ideas for a Boxing Day picnic

Things you will need for a picnic.

According to www.officeholidays.com, December 26 is a public holiday known as the Day of Goodwill. Before 1994, the day was celebrated as Boxing Day.

“It has been said that the name of Boxing Day comes from people getting rid of empty boxes from presents after Christmas day. While a beguiling notion, the tradition dates back to England in the middle ages, though the exact origin is debatable,” states the Office Holidays website.

Traditions change as the years go by, many spend their Boxing Day relaxing with family at home or a nice picnic spot. When you are going out for a picnic the ‘must-haves’ are essential.

What you need to have:

 – A blanket or blankets to sit or lay on

 – if the blankets aren’t your style then you can take camping chairs

 – many braai at their picnic spots so you can take your braai stand and meat

 – an alternative to having a braai would be to make delicious salads and snacks after having huge Christmas lunches.

 – You have to go early to get a decent shaded picnic spot or else you will have to take a gazebo or huge umbrellas to create the shade you need

 – do not forget the cool drinks

 – if there will be kids coming along on the picnic, you can take a ball for them to play with, board games and card games which the whole family can play

Places like the Zoo Lake, Florida Lake, Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, and the Johannesburg Botanical Garden are just a few of the picnic places you can visit on Boxing Day with the family.
