A chance to meet Pimville’s Commercial Pilot and her ADA team

If you're 8 -18 Years-old then here is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hang out with Aviation specialists.

From soaring the skies to country-wide school exhibitions, it’s all in a day’s work for Commercial Pilot, Boitumelo Katisi, and her Aviation Development in Africa (ADA) team. Fresh off hosting the largest Aviation Expo in 2019, ADA is now looking to gift a few young people with the chance of a lifetime.

The Aviation Development in Africa team is a group of specialists in the Aviation sector who have taken it upon themselves to educate, inspire and nurture young people around the country who wish to pursue a career in Aviation. Despite Covid-19 restrictions putting a sudden halt to the team’s planned 2nd Aviation Expo in Venda, Thohoyandou, Katisi, and her team are still determined to make 2020 a fruitful year.

ADA, in partnership with various organisations, is set to launch its very first Aviation Career Booklet on the 18th of November, and the team will be doing it specially. If you are between the ages of 8 and 18 years old, and a learner at any Gauteng school, then you stand a chance to meet the ADA team, as well as clinch 1 of 5 seats flying alongside these aircraft specialists.

“For the 18th, it’s just the launch, but when we do our school tours, we plan to distribute the booklets. It has a lot of information and will be very useful to anyone interested in the Aviation industry,” she said.

Katisi herself is Soweto through and through. born and raised in Pimville, the 28-Year-old is one of the youngest licensed Commercial Pilots in the world. She had her introduction to Aviation when she went along to work with a family member who worked at an airport for her career day school assignment. Katisi’s love affair with Aviation blossomed ever since, and with hard work, she has made her mark in a male-dominated industry. family, she said, was a crucial part of her success.

“To parents, I have to say, it starts at home. If a child is passionate about something, try and feed that passion, for example, I was taken to an airport, so take kids to work, to career days, to expos. Encourage and help young people meet their role models. Those little gestures have a huge impact,” she said.

Katisi would know all about huge impacts, the 28-Year-old Commercial Pilot is one of 2020’s Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans and was honored at the 2019 Civil Aviation Industry Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Aviation in South Africa.
