Man gets 40-year sentence for various K’dorp house robberies.

A house robber was handed down a 40-year sentence in the Krugersdorp Regional Court. In a statement released by Krugersdorp Police’s spokesperson, Captain Raymond Sebonyane, he said Sizwe Mthalane Msibi, a 38-year-old man from Chiawelo, Soweto was convicted and sentenced on 20 October.

The first robbery occurred at a house on Garrick Street, Kenmare on 18 January 2017 at about 11.10 am.

“The victim was home from work and when she opened the gate, she was accosted by four unknown males, one armed with a firearm. The intruders went into the house and took the victim’s Sony DVD player and house keys. No arrest was made,” Sebonyane said. The next robbery occurred at a house on Reserve Street in Wentworth Park on 9 October 2017 at about 12.40am.

The investigating officer in both cases, Sergeant Mafurane Petlele, worked on the cases and on 30 May 2018 he arrested Msibi who was linked to both cases. Msibi was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each for the two robberies, and this sentence will be running concurrently with a sentence that he is currently serving.

On 29 April 2019 he was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Roodepoort Regional Court – two years for malicious damage to property, ten years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, five years for possession of stolen property, eight years for unlawful possession of a firearm, and five years for unlawful possession of ammunition.

The police want to encourage the members of the public to report any suspicious activities by contacting their nearest police station or calling the police Crime Stop number on 08600 10111. Information may also be communicated via the My SAPS app or SMS number on 32211 and remain anonymous.
