Cheslin Renecke is the newly elected Ward 17 youth leader

New Ward 17 youth leader introduces himself.

Cheslin Renecke is the newly elected Ward 17 youth leader and youth deputy chairman for Hlanganani Constitutes.

“I would like to say thank you to the DA board and the community for granting me the opportunity to lead them for change,” said Renecke. The newly elected leader takes the position after former youth leader Taihaira Hendricks stepped down and become a deputy youth leader.

Last week Saturday, (October 24) I was elected as the deputy chairperson of the youth Hlanganani Constitutes which is the board of the branch. It now gives me the authority to allow the youth to raise their voice. I have been waiting very long for an opportunity like this, and I believe that Eldorado Park has also been waiting for an opportunity to raise their voice. It is through youth that we can change. The youth is the future and if we don’t listen to their voice and their cry, then we are going to go nowhere,” explained Renecke.

The youth leader would like to visit the different areas in Ward 17 to get to know the youth, introduce himself, listen to their issues, and find a way forward.

“I am currently busy with a youth desk, where we will provide the youth with computer skills, drawing up CV’s, and looking for jobs. We will also be tackling service delivery issues, our parents at home are old, they shouldn’t be having such troubles.”

“As the youth leader, I’m saying that all contractors, all projects that are being run in the community are done the incorrect way because our youth never knows when a project comes up. We just see it happening. As long as we have such issues, the youth is going to continue to use drugs. And for how long do our children have to sell drugs to build their lives? It’s very unfair.”

“The youth needs to stand up and fight for what is theirs, I’m asking them to become active. I will walk in front. There is a lot of organisations in Eldorado Park but there is still nothing happening. Most of us just talk with no action. I’m not a politician that will just sit in the office, I will be visible in the community. I’m also asking for organisations and businesses in our community to employ the children of the community,” said Renecke.
