FOCUS: midfielder Ronald Wee training with Candle Light Sports Development

Midfielder Ronald Wee trains under coach Gadaffi.

Twenty-four-year-old midfielder Ronald Wee from Eldorado Park is currently training with Candle Light Sports Development with coach Grant Fernandez better known as Gadaffi.

“I am currently playing under the Vodacom League with La Masia, but due to the coronavirus, our league had to be put on hold, so now we are training with coach Gadaffi. This training is helping us with our fitness,” said Wee.

The midfielder shared that it is his first season with La Masia FC, and feels as though his team has been playing well. “We finished off in fifth place, that is a good spot for our first season in the league,” he added.

Wee believes that as a soccer player, you have to be able to play neutral positions, so even though he is a midfielder, he can play in other positions.

When it comes to who inspires him, Wee shared: “I look up to the midfielder of Chelsea FC; N’Golo KantĂ©, he is an inspiration to me because he is working hard and I like hard work.”

He added: “Candle Light Sports Development is a good initiative for all of us here in the community of Eldorado Park. This programme started with just two players; I was one of them. The numbers have increased now. I am signed to coach Gadaffi and Earl Johnson who is currently based in London, they are my agents.”

Wee has traveled to Norway to play football and explained that it was quite an experience because of the discipline, the culture, and coaching which is so different from that side, however, Wee added that he must say that South African football is not too far behind.

“I would like the big franchises in Eldorado Park like Spar, Shoprite, Build it, just to name a few. I’d like them just to come to have a look at this development programme because I believe if we had sponsors, we would go far,” concluded Wee.
