Reach For Recovery empowering breast cancer survivors,

Breast Cancer NGO, Reach For Recovery (RFR) is appealing to you to help create awareness by buying mushrooms in Pink Punnets this October for a campaign consisting of breast cancer survivors to reach out to underprivileged survivors.

Their annual Power of Pink Campaign is in the month of October, and when you purchase 250g pink punnets of whole or sliced white button mushrooms in October, you will be helping in the RFR Ditto Prostheses Project to purchase silicone breast prostheses for underprivileged women who cannot afford.

One of the cancer survivors who is part of RFR is Bessie Tshelapadi from Diepkloof was diagnosed with cancer 15 years ago.

“When I found out about breast cancer, it was 2005 May 26, but before then, I didn’t know. I felt ill in 2005 January. I went to see a doctor, and that’s when she said to me she needed to do some referrals for me to get x-rays for my breast and my stomach and later that year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and for me to survive, they had to do an operation and then they will give me a treatment, my journey to chemotherapy was very long, but I have survived,” said Tselapadi.

“Joining RFR has brought positive changes in my life, and I want to continue helping, educating as well as encouraging women about the importance of visiting our doctors as well as doing self-examinations, to stay informed all the time, seek more information and of course to join the amazing RFR volunteer team,” she concludes.

Shirley Gottschick, Chairperson of Reach for Recovery’s Johannesburg branch, is passionate about Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Prostheses Project, which provides breast prostheses to those who cannot afford them.

“It is a life-changing gift of hope for a mastectomy patient as she can face life again looking ‘normal’ and feeling confident! “And remember,” she says, “your generous purchase of 250g pink punnets of whole or sliced white button mushrooms at Pick n Pay during October is the power behind our annual Power of Pink campaign.

“The funds raised give financial power to Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Prostheses Project to purchase silicone breast prostheses for women who can’t afford reconstructive surgery after the trauma of breast cancer.”
