Imbewu Yokuphila offered their self-defense lessons at Kuse Park

Teaching a skill to help fight GBV.

graced the community of Orlando with a free self-defense boot camp that was held at Kuse Park.

Themba Mbanyele a fitness trainer and a self-defense coach at the organisation said they were in the park to make the community aware of the lessons they have and to make a difference in the community.

Seeing the sudden rise of Gender-Based Violence cases they hope to teach community members a defense mechanism that will help them fight for themselves in times of need.

“We saw what was happening and thought of what we can do to help fight social ills. This is our way of trying to help our community,” said Mbanyele.

With the sessions, Imbewe Yokuphila would really love to see women who are fit and able to defend themselves. Mbanyele added that the sessions are a weekly programme.

They do not only focus on self-defense lessons but they also do hikes for kids where they sell bottled water to assist children from Soweto enjoy hiking.
