Sitting in the car at night increases the rate of carjacking

Meadowlands police station warns against sitting in cars at night.

Meadowlands police station would like to warn the community sitting in the car at night as it increases the rate of car hijacks. On October 13 in Zone 10 the Complainant 21 years old female was sited outside her home with her boyfriend inside the vehicle when they were approached by two males who were armed.

According to a media statement released by Meadowlands spokesperson Octavia Thebe, it is alleged that the suspects knocked at the driver seat where the boyfriend was. It further states that the other one went on the passenger seat where he grabbed the complainant.

The victim further explained that she pulled away from the suspect and ran to the corner where she saw the other two suspects both armed next to the car and they pulled her boyfriend out and he threw the car keys in the yard.

“One of the suspects shot the male victim on his leg and the other suspect fetched the car keys in the yard and then drove away with the car with the complainant’s boyfriend in the back seat between two suspects,” said Thebe.

The complainant explained the story to her sister and they called the police who took them to the station to open a case. Later the boyfriend dropped in Mfolo where he called his sister and was taken to the Baragwanath Hospital.

“The victims were robbed a VW polo playa white in colour and one victim is hospitalised. Suspect are 4 unknown males all armed with firearms. One cartridge was found at the scene,” concluded Thebe.
