DA wishes Ward Cllr Rafferty well on his departure

The Democratic Alliance (DA) received Ward 17 Councillor Peter Rafferty’s resignation on Monday, October 12.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) received Ward 17 Councillor Peter Rafferty’s resignation on Monday, October 12. This goes after being the ward councilor for nine years in Eldorado Park. The councilor announced his departure from the party in the Eldorado Park group chats where he said:

“Dear residents, please take note that after careful consideration and discussions with my family. I have to decide to end my membership with the Democratic Alliance and as such, I am also stepping down as Councillor of ward 17 respectively. I need to thank each and everyone for the support over the years and also those who robustly kept me accountable on numerous occasions. I want to thank the DA for the opportunity given to me to serve my community however it’s time to move on. I wish all the activists and colleagues all the best going forward.

The councilor was then contacted for further comment, he added: “It’s been a great journey for me. I need to express my gratitude to the DA for granting me the opportunity to have served as a DA member. However, in life change is part and parcel when you are not happy with circumstances.

“I would like to thank all the residents for the support that they have shown me. Listening to most of the messages received even outside of the ward I was responsible for was amazing. I will remain an active activist and should my new party Patriotic Alliance decide to deploy me I will continue serving as best I can. Our journey will be a tough one but I am ready to take on the next challenge.”

The DA would like to thank Councillor Rafferty for his contribution in serving the community of Ward 17 and wish him well in his new endeavors. In the meantime, the DA Ward 18 Councillor Fazel Jaffer will take over all the responsibilities in Ward 17. If there are any service delivery issues, queries, or community issues Councillor Jaffer will be available to deal with those issues directly.

The DA would also like to thank Councillor Jaffer for taking over this responsibility until the by-election to replace Councillor Rafferty is concluded.
