The officers immediately grabbed the suspect and took him to Moffatview SAPS for detainment, the vehicle was booked in at Aeroton SAPS Pound.

The JMPD K9 officers helped recover a car that was hijacked at Impala Road near the N12 in Protea Glen and arrested the suspect all the way in Oakdene.

The officers received a look-out tip for a particular Toyota Fortuner car that had been hijacked, and while patrolling, they spotted the car with only the driver, and when they attempted to stop the car, the driver changed gears and sped off.

The Spokesperson for the JMPD, Xolani Fihla confirmed that “One suspect has been apprehended in Oakdene for a car that was reportedly hijacked at the N12. The suspect was arrested after he sped off from the officers, driving recklessly even attempting to ram the JMPD vehicle off the freeway during his attempt to run away with the hijacked vehicle.”

The officers fired some shots which caused the driver to lose control of the car and like the unfortunate end of a getaway scene in an action movie, he crashed.

Fihla explained, “The car crashed into a palisade fence of a business area on a road in Oakdene, but the suspect wasn’t about to give up his attempt to escape the law, he jumped out of the car and tried to make a run for it.”

The officers immediately grabbed the suspect and took him to Moffatview SAPS for detainment, the vehicle was booked in at Aeroton SAPS Pound.

People who have recovered hijacked vehicles should know that they will not just get back their cars, there are certain steps they should follow like, acquiring a police clearance.

South Africa as it stands has the highest number of reported hijackings per day, compared to any other country, between the year 2019/2020 the number of hijacked cars went up 13.3%.
