Eldorado Park Taxi Association transporting elderly citizens on pension day for free

Nancefield Retirement Village would like to appreciate locals who have been serving seniors with kindness and compassion.

Sylvia Zacharias and Cynthia Smith from the Nancefield Retirement Village would like to appreciate locals who have been serving seniors with kindness and compassion.

“We are about 120 residents here in the village. There was a taxi service but in the last few years, those services stopped for us so Cynthia and I took the initiative and we went to the taxi association to speak to the chairman and they were so kind to offer us a taxi that takes us to Shoprite on pension day. The taxi driver Michael Hambly takes us and he is a very kind person. He is very compassionate with the old people and he makes about three trips to get all the residents to Shoprite.

“We have a lot of chronic patients and many of the residents have crutches or wheelchairs so the manager of Shoprite; Ansie Adams, organised a till for us pensioners so that we don’t have to stand in the queue so long. She was also very kind and accommodating towards us. Supervisor; Humbulani Mvekho, and the rest of the staff at Shoprite are very helpful and compassionate, even the securities, the moment we arrive and show them our tags which indicates where we are from, they run around for us, they get the chairs out and get us seated,” explained Zacharias.

Smith added: “Due to the Covid-19, only a few of us were allowed in at a time so the rest of us would be seated outside when the few go in to shop. We get there at 7 am, the manager opens early for us. With the Covid-19, people can now collect their SASSA grants over two days so the manager of Shoprite suggested that we do our shopping on the second day because it isn’t as busy.”

The seniors shared that they cannot buy gifts or give money to these individuals but to show their appreciation towards them, they handed over certificates of appreciation for all the help, kindness, compassion, and willingness to make the senior’s lives a little easier.

The senior citizens would also like the community to know the amazing people who assist them. The certificates of appreciation were handed to Ansie Adams who is the manager of Shoprite in Eldorado Park, Michael Hambly who is a driver for the Eldorado Park Taxi Association, and the securities from Mint Master Management.
