Diepkloof residents fed-up with GBV

Ward 26 residents gathered at the Diepkloof extreme Park to express their frustrations in a form of candle lighting ceremony.

Gruesome killings of women and children across the country have evoked angry reactions from communities, who demand that action be taken to stop the violence.

The battle against gender-based violence remains a nightmare in South African and Diepkloof Ward 26 is one of the alleged hotspots not just for GBV but for other criminal activities and residents are saying enough is enough, taking it to the busiest park in Diepkloof, the Diepkloof Extreme Park on Thursday, September 17 night, to express their anger and frustrations against GBV and crime

Joined by the Ward 26 councilor, Kala Mazibuko who explained what makes Ward 26 crime worse is that it includes Diepkloof Zone 6 which has the biggest taxi rank in Soweto, which attracts not just Sowetans but South Africa as well as people from foreign countries.

He went on to mention a few cases that occurred in Zone 2 alone, these include disturbing alleged series of incidents of a serial rapist next to the Extreme Park who uses a condom when raping his victims so that tracing him becomes a challenge.

The community is demanding that action must be taken to stop these crimes.
