Pimville Matric pupils use lockdown to their advantage

Nhlanhla Tshabangu, Sphamandla Buthelezi, and Thulani Shezi started a clothing brand known as Soweto Lockdown Wear (SLOW).

While most matriculants were sobbing at home during Level Five Lockdown a group of three childhood friends from Pimville zone 7 came up with a brilliant idea to keep them busy while generating income.

Nhlanhla Tshabangu, Sphamandla Buthelezi, and Thulani Shezi started a clothing brand known as Soweto Lockdown Wear (SLOW). Buthelezi said when they heard that the country will be going on lockdown, they thought that things will not go well for them, so they came up with this idea to make money. The whole lockdown thing really broke our hearts.

The trio is in matric so they depend on the pocket money that their parents give them. He said seeing how the youth is drawn to fashion they really thought it is a good idea to venture into the business of being trendsetters.

Buthelezi said their wish is to see their brand competing with well-known clothing brands and being able to employ people. He explained that starting the business was not easy for them as they had to hustle to find start-up capital.

“We conducted our own research on how to run a business and other strategies that will help the business grow,” he said.

He said as friends they are doing pure maths at school so they thought that choosing the equilateral triangle as their symbol will simply explain that they equally share everything.
