Police conducted a search in vandalised Dube Flats

The Dube flats are now a high crime spot in the area.

As we conclude Women’s Month, police officers from the Meadowlands Police Station visited the vandalised flats in Dube Hostel as part of their campaign advocating for community safety.

The flats are known as a high crime hot spot in the area. Men and women in blue flooded the abandoned flats in an operation which was led by their VISPOL commander colonel Andrew Monegi.

A spokesperson for Meadowlands Police station Octavia Thebe said they have always received cases of rape from the area and dead bodies were discovered in the area.

“We went there to search for suspicious things and if we could perhaps get any evidence, ” she said.

She said that seeing that it is Women’s Month there was no other way to celebrate the month than ensuring that women are safe.

Their search led them to a room that had a drawing of a naked male and women.

The room had blankets and mattresses that the officers set alight.
