The Dreamers ABC set to grace Joburg Theatre under the new normal this year by making use of virtual platforms. The art lovers made their first appearance in the theatre last year.

ABC is a joint production between rapper Solo Langa, powerhouse arts academy, and the ART 24 Academy. The partnership aims to bring Hip Hop music and theatre play in one stage.
In this fascinating production viewers will get to enjoy the rebirth of Langa’s album trilogy – Dreams A Plenty, Dreams B Plenty, and the latest release dubbed C Plenty Dreams.

The Academy’s Co-founder Mlamli Maloyi said the production makes use of fresh raw talent that one has never seen before. He explained that they create a stage play that honours both genres while telling the dreamer’s story.

Maloyi said It all started when Langa was looking for vocalists and as fate brought him to them. He recalled Langa’s visit during one of their rehearsal at the Joburg theatre which is where the partnership began.

“The Academy was founded in the dusty street of Soweto, Protea Glen and aims to create a safe space for Kasi urban creatives, while also striving to open doors for these artists and therefore subsequently introducing them to the broader world of the arts, that they would have otherwise not been exposed to,” he said.

Joburg Theatre Youth and Community Development Manager Ntsako Mkhabela said the theatre understands that for art to flourish there must be space and a supportive environment to do so.

She added that the theatre has dedicated space and resources to help the voices of a new generation of South African theatre-makers to thrive and trust their own voices.

“Our partnership with Art 24 is part of our commitment to being the space for young people to explore the art, develop their craft, and find their own artistic voices. The Joburg Theatre is the fertile ground.

She described the Art 24 Academy as a patient farmer tending to the seed, pregnant with potential and creativity. Mkhabela said together with Solo Langa, now popularly known as Solo Ntsizwa Ka Mthimkhulu, are in the process of recording their second show which will be a virtual show and the release date will be announced soon.
