Minister of Police has declared an amnesty for firearm owners

The public is encouraged to make use of this opportunity to surrender and hand in unwanted or illegal firearms.

Captain Jerbes de Bruyn who is the communications officer of the Sophiatown SAPS shared information for the residents living in the Sophiatown and surrounding areas.

“The minister of police has declared an amnesty for firearm owners starting from 1st of August 2020 till the 31st of January 2021.

The public is encouraged to make use of this opportunity to surrender and hand in unwanted or illegal firearms, firearm parts and ammunition without any fear of prosecution.

This amnesty period also gives those members of the public the opportunity to renew their expired firearm licenses.

Every citizen that wants to adhere to this opportunity should contact the nearest designated amnesty officer of their nearest police station.
