Business robbery getaway vehicle traced back in Soweto

Six men arrested with an illegal gun and stolen clothes.

Members of various policing units successfully arrested six suspects in Soweto, recovering an unlicensed fire-arm with ammunition along with clothing items reported to have been stolen.

The Benoni Flying Squad in the Johannesburg Central SAPS Robbery Reaction Unit and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department reacted quickly to the information about a business robbery in Carletonville Mall where cell phones and clothes had been robbed from one of the retail stores.

The police units from different areas responded to the robbery alert and they were all directed to the N12 Highway leading to Soweto, in a house Emndeni.

The Communications Officer for the Benoni Flying Squad, Grant Giblin said, “The three different policing units tactically entered the premises and came across six suspects in a backroom from the premises where a thorough search was conducted and 49 cellphones and clothes allegedly taken from the business robbery were recovered.”

One of the suspects was found with an unlicensed 9mm CZ firearm and 10 rounds of ammunition.

All the suspects were arrested on the spot and the allegedly stolen goods estimated at a value of a hundred thousand rands were confiscated, plus the white Toyota Quantum that was also allegedly used to commit the business robbery was impounded while the investigation continues.
