Bistro and Kayotic join the fights against GBV through music

The wave of GBV in South Africa has become a profound and widespread problem that directly violates women's rights, impacting them in almost every aspect of life.

The widespread problem of Gender-based violence made Bistro and Kayotic teamed up to pass a powerful message through music and raise awareness.

To celebrate the month of women Bistro and Kayotic teamed up and gave birth to a song titled #Imani (Whoah) which signifies putting a stop to gender-based violence.

With this in mind, Simbonge Mabaso, otherwise known by his stage name, Bistro and Kabelo Nyama, well-known as Kayotic are spreading a powerful message to put an end to GBV.

“Bistro and I have joined the fight against gender-based violence using our music as a weapon to fight against these savage actions against our women and children. With this song we calling for a stop on the murdering of our women,” says Kayotic.

These musicians from Greenvillage, Soweto have noted with anguish at the rise of gender-based violence cases in their neighborhood. Imani is the response to this societal ill they want to put an end to through music.

“I wrote the song called #imani which speaks to the gender-based violence issue in our townships. We must put a stop to it and start to appreciate our women and children affected by it. I hope that people will receive the message and help us spread it because everyone has the right to life,” says Bistro.

Bistro is a 27-year-old musician with a strong stance on social issues in his music. And Kayotic is a 24-year-old versatile musician who transcends genres with his music.

Popularly known for his vocals on Gqom sounds, the same can be equally said with his flair in rap music.
