Faith Taylor(23) dancing her way to stardom since the age of 8

Faith Taylor talks about all things Dance.

“Dance brings some sort of fulfillment that is just unmatched. Dance brings people together and it’s a form of communication. You can use dance as entertainment or you can use it as therapy. I feel like musicians, painters, designers, and dancers all speak the same language,” said professional dancer .

Born and raised in Eldorado Park, the twenty-three-year-old is not only a dancer but is an instructor, choreographer, and creative director.

“I am a proud key member of Urban Jam Dance Company founded by award-winning dancer and choreographer Sheldon Bailey.

“I have been involved in dance since the age of 8.

“This passion has been carried out over the years to allow me to take it up professionally in 2017. I am currently a Hip-Hop instructor, specifically inclined to dance forms such as New school, Lyrical, Street Dance, House, Hype, and Popping.

“I am also working on collaborating with artists in order to build a name for myself. Artists such as A.k.A, Stogie T, She Atlas, RaOol World, and Luna Florentino have allowed me to gain momentum,” said Taylor.

The dancer expressed that the two of the main things that she learned in dance is that consistency and sincerity is important.

“You really need to know why you are committing to all the hours you put in. There’s a saying ‘if you want to go fast, you go alone. If you want to go far, you go as a group’. The arts and entertainment industry are known for a lot of people who have struggled a lot and there’s often only a handful of people who strike gold.

“The industry can be extremely cut-throat at times but it’s important to stay humble, otherwise you get replaced. People often rate their level of respect for you by your chosen dance style.

“Ballet is more formal and you can teach that at schools so it’s considered ‘proper’ and if you choose Hip Hop or Street Dance, people often think that that is a rebellious type of behaviour, those are some of the stereotypes that we are still trying to overcome.

“have learned to respect the timing of everything, like every career, you have to put in the hours before anything can happen. I would also like to address the whole gender things were its male dancers’ versus female dancers, I personally never paid attention to this because I’ve always aimed at dancing like my male counterparts, there shouldn’t be a differentiation between the level of skill that’s seen between the two genders,” shared Taylor.

When asked about how it feels to work with big names in the entertainment industry, Taylor said that it is breath-taking, to say the least. “These are people who I never thought I would ever meet and there really isn’t anything better than being on stage.

“It really encourages you to be more and rewards such as these make it all worth it and it feels like the hard work has paid off when I work with these big names.”

Dance Star, Global Dance Supreme, and Hip-Hop Dance International (HHI) are just a few of the competitions that Taylor and the dance company were part of but Taylor’s most memorable experience so far was last year when they participated in the Dance Star Croatia Finals, in Croatia.

“As a new age creative and an evolving artist, it important to explore and make use of positive outlets. We took second place in our dance category. It was great meeting new people, seeing the different cultures, and sharing dance with people who you’re struggling to speak with. Winning that award was probably one of the best memories,” concluded Taylor.

Apart from her dance career, Taylor is a qualified IT professional, she is a Network Administrator, and admits that she is still balancing her schedule between the lifestyle as a creative versus a 9 to 5 job.
