Center midfielder, Christian Jacobs on his love for soccer

Football is the center of his life.

This week in sports, we interviewed center midfielder; Christian Jacobs from Eldorado Park. The seventeen-year-old plays for the U17 and first-team for Midas Sports Academy under the Midas Sports Development Programme which is based on the grounds of Eldorado Park Secondary School.

“I’ve been playing for the club for about three to four years now. My skills have improved a lot under the training of coach Neo, coach Shifa and coach Derrick, they have all played a big role in my development in football as well as in my life. I believe with my coaches I can go far in football,” shared Jacobs.

The passion for soccer all began in the streets for Jacobs as he played with his friends. Over the years, Jacobs has been with other clubs including Ficky All Stars Football Club (FC) who is affiliated with the Jowest Local Football Association which is based around Westbury and surrounding areas.

“I also play for my school which is Eldorado Park Secondary School. I love everything about football, I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t smoke, I just love football and since I want to become a professional football player, I need to take my health seriously.”

During this lockdown I have been trying to keep fit, I run every morning to Viking, Freedom Park and then back to Eldorado Park. Sometimes, I also come to our training grounds with my friend then we train here. I really miss my team so much especially the first team because that is where I push myself, and grow with them.

“The first team improves my skills. I am training and keeping fit. I am ready for the scouts to come and get us,” said Jacobs.

The center midfielder also added that he was into the lifestyle of drinking alcohol but his coach sat him down and spoke to him about the impact of that kind of lifestyle and how it won’t assist him in becoming the professional soccer player that he wants to become.

When he competes school, Jacob plans on studying at Witwatersrand University where he would like to study Law, however, not leaving football out of the equation.

“I would like to play internationally and my dream team would be to play for Arsenal because that is my favourite football club.

“My message to other teenagers who are soccer players is: If you are passionate about the sport and would like to become professional, you should quit the lifestyle of drinking alcohol, smoking, and partying all the time.

“Keep training and just never give up, believe in God because He is our protector and he will make a way for us.”

Jacobs favourite soccer players are Mesut Ozil from Arsenal FC (internationally) and locally, Willard Katsande from Chiefs FC.
