“Mothers who have suspected or confirmed Covid-19 should continue breastfeeding while practicing good respiratory hygiene.

“We will continue our efforts to support and empower mothers and primary caregivers with information on their parenting journey, even during this difficult time,” he said.

Deputy Health Minister Joe Phaahla added that people should support breastfeeding mothers so that they can feel free and comfortable to do it anywhere.

He said people should continue promoting it to new mothers.

Health benefits of breastfeeding include;

• Reducing the mother’s risk of cancer infection.
• Ensures the baby is healthy
• Helps the mother bond with the baby
• Act as a natural medication when the baby is sick
Mothers are always advised by health workers to exclusively breastfeed their babies from birth to six months and after that they should introduce them to solids while continuing with breastfeeding until the age of 2 years
