Thusa Bantwana feeds the hungry in Eldos and Kliptown

"People are battling to feed their families"- Florence Steemkamp.

Many residents have lost their jobs due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. Non-Profit Organisations (NPO’s) such as Thusa Bantwana are feeding the residents who are in need in the community of Eldorado Park and Kliptown.

Founder of the NPO, Florence Steemkamp explained that their feeding scheme has been running for years now and due to the pandemic, the need to feed the community has increased.

“We feed about 200 to 250 people in our community both children and adults four times a week. Pastor Joseph from Talida House is the one who is sponsoring us with the ingredients, and the pots to cook with. We run the feeding scheme throughout the year and for Christmas time, we have a Christmas party for the children.

“I would like residents to assist us in donating food items to our organisation so that we can feed more people in our community.

“We are not asking for money, just food items that we can use to cook for those who are in need.

“We as women need to stand together, respect one another, and work together.

“These kids in the community need us, now with Covid-19, a lot of residents lost their jobs and now we have to feed more people because people are battling to feed their families,” said Steemkamp.

The founder of the NPO added that they also plan on giving the children pap in the mornings and then feed them during lunchtime again.

“Yesterday, the children were given apples and a reading book by the NPO.

The NPO gave books to the children to keep them busy for the day.

“It’s so sad to see how people are struggling in our community.

“Children are at home, running in the streets hungry. We hope that the books will keep the children busy and keep them off from the streets.

“I would like to thank my family for always assisting with the feeding scheme, and I would also like to thank Pastor Joseph for all the donations to our NPO,” said Steemkamp.

Residents who are interested in assisting the NPO with food items can contact Florence Steemkamp on 060 306 7195.
