The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards held a peaceful march against Gender-Based Violence

Musicians join the fight against GBV.

The Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards held a peaceful march against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) during this time where the country is fighting against an invisible enemy which is COVID 19 and the statistics of GBV keeps on rising.

Torn clothes and scar paintings where the theme of the day. The march was aimed at decreasing the statistic of femicide, rape, child abductions, and human trafficking.

The group chanted in the busy streets of the Johannesburg to Nelson Mandela Bridge where they met with the acting Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Major general Max Masha, and a handful of law enforcement officers who were observing that the COVID-19 protocols are followed.

Amongst the participants of the march was praise poet Jessica Mbangeni and Kwaito legend, Mercy Phakela.

CEO of MKHMA Perfecta Malinga handed over a memorandum of request to the Major General.

One of the requests made on the memo was the removal of incompetent officers who are not providing an adequate service to the South African public.

The marchers also called for section 11 of the constitution to be amended, and for the death penalty to be reinstated for heinous crimes such as rape and murder.
