Bapedi Primary School learners endowed with matching masks

One of the parents of learners at Bapedi Primary School, Christina Radebe, says that she felt the need to meet the department half-way by donating more masks to the school as more grades will be phased in and the demand for masks will be higher.

Since the CoronaVirus outbreak, masks have become a necessity, unfortunately, there are those who can’t afford them. The Department of Education has played its part in providing learners and teachers with necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).

One of the parents of learners at Bapedi Primary School, Christina Radebe, says that she felt the need to meet the department half-way by donating more masks to the school as more grades will be phased in and the demand for masks will be higher. Radebe donated maroon masks matching with the school uniform, which is maroon and gold.

“I have a child in this school and besides, this is an old school, we grew up knowing as one of the best schools, so, I said why not lend a helping hand and meet the department half-way. With what the department had already given them I thought I should add because somehow it is not enough. I understand that providing for a large number is not easy, so I decided to give back by donating more comfortable masks for learners at this school,” said Radebe.

A teacher at the school, Innocentia Seoka said that they really appreciate Radebe’s efforts to protect learners while in school.

“We appreciate her efforts, even better, the masks match with our school uniform, which will mean that our learners will look presentable at all times. They are very comfortable, learners will be able to concentrate, without complaining and touching their ears every now and then. So, as a school, we are really grateful, blessed is the hand that gives,” Seoka said.

A learner at the school, Lethabo Mamogere spoke on behalf of his fellow learners, expressing his deepest gratitude for the donation.

“We have received masks from the Department, and now Mahlatse Radebe’s mother just added with beautiful ones that match with our school uniform. The fact that schools had to open worried a lot of parents, but I am grateful for the schools re-opening because learning has to proceed. With people meeting the department half-way and assisting us like this, we can overcome this,” Mamogere said.

Although the donated masks won’t be enough for everyone at the school, Grade 7s will all be covered.
