Protea Glen young upcoming rapper aims to captivate souls with his music.

Peekay World chases big dreams.

The new generation of rap music has been associated with a lot of negativity as it is said that young rappers are not representing hip hop well. A young hip hop mogul in the making, Prince Mashumu AKA Peekay World assures the people that he is not just doing this to make a name for himself, but to win over the people with his unique lyrics and style.

The 19-year-old Prince Mashumu from Protea glen states that he started doing music when he was 12 years old and growing up in Johannesburg has had a big influence on his music.

“Growing up in Johannesburg has influenced me to know and learn more about the hip hop lifestyle. I grew up seeing a lot of big names in hip hop from Johannesburg and that was great motivation.”

Mashumu explains that he makes music about how he feels and what community and the world at large face. “My music is mostly influenced by my feelings, emotions, and what is happening around me. Most of the time when I am writing my music I prefer being alone because I love my space that’s what motivates me to write.”

He hopes to inspire people with his music mostly the youth. The message he wants to give the youth is that anyone can be whoever they want to be, And its never too late to chase your dreams.

“Your dreams are valid and it is never too late to pursue them. Let nothing stand in your way, go get what is yours.”

Like any other person with big dreams of success, Mashumu faced and is still facing a number of mishaps but is not letting them get in his way. He explains that his biggest challenges were finding a recording studio and uploading his music.

“ I remember I used and still struggle to find a recording studio, I don’t know if it’s me only but where I come from its hard. Getting my music on most platforms as well as a struggle because it needs more money, I struggle with investments to my music as well.”

He continued to say that during the national lockdown and since the pandemic broke, his gigs and shows were canceled. He cannot go to any recording studio outside of his home.

He says that the support from his community and his intense love for music is what has kept him going. “The passion I have to make sure my dreams come trues keeps me going, and the promise I made to myself that I am going to be a star one day.”

But with all those challenges, Peekay World has achieved a lot of great things with his music. “I was able to perform at the most known Pubs/clubs in Johannesburg. Even though the crowd was less than 500 people to me it was an achievement. I also got to work closely with other creatives such as Masterchef Toast and the journey continues.”

In the near future, Peekay World plans to attract more audience and be able to win their hearts. He explains that his long-term goals are to build his own recording studio and be able to get his music on more platforms.

“I am planning to expand my project and work with other brands, my wish is to work with my musical role models and other brands willing to do the work.”

Mashumu is not only planning to be a rap master but is also planning to take the computing world by storm. He is currently studying information technology at the Tshwane University of Technology.

“My supporters and everyone else can expect new music in the near future. I will keep pushing to make my dreams valid.”
