Melvarene Theron to represent Eldos in Miss SA

The Top 35 of the prestigious Miss South Africa was finally announced about 2 weeks ago.

Eldorado Park’s very own Melvarene Theron has made it to the Top 35 of the prestigious Miss South Africa 2020.

Here’s a brief intro of who Theron is:

“I’m from a middle-class family of five. My parents separated before I was a teen.
My mother raised my two brothers and me for a good while before she remarried; she is a community activist, pastor and the founder of “The women’s voice Eldorado Park”. My stepdad is a teacher, I have two brothers, both scholars aged 17 and 11. Together, the three of us were raised to practice love, kindness and respect,” she said.

The 25-year-old University of Johannesburg (UJ) LLB graduate and Gauteng Department of Roads and Public Transport’s legal intern says that she wants to be Miss SA because she is passionate about social change.

“Justice and women empowerment are two factors that align with my objectives. I’m driven by the possibility of a just system and liberated women. My mission is to advocate for women and children’s rights and self-love,” Theron said.

Theron was inspired by Miss SA 2015, Liesl Laurie.

“She said she wants to serve as a beacon of hope for her community – and she did just that. Our very similar background has most certainly given me reason to want to part take in social change,” she said.

Lockdown due to COVID-19 may be seen by many, if not most of us, as a negative experience, however, we all found ways to handle it, at the same time taking with some lessons. Asked how she handled the lockdown Theron said she kept herself busy with various activities.
“These served as coping mechanisms for me. Time with immediate family and online challenges also sharpened my baking skills,” she said.

“The Coronavirus pandemic has taught me that nothing is guaranteed, time is an expensive resource and I’ve gotten a little smarter about money matters. This time has taught me to really value what I have,” she added.

2020 has been a tough year globally but Theron has seen some positives in it.

“The pandemic has placed me in a position to have more compassion for the vulnerable groups of people; it also encouraged me to practice better hygiene and not forgetting that it taught me to love more and give even more,” she said.
