Man(42) arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm in Protea Glen Ext 4

An investigation is underway to check the firearm ownership and to link the firearm with crimes committed in the area.

A 42 year old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm on Sunday evening in Protea Glen Ext 4.

The police statement assert that the police were patrolling the area when they received a complaint of a shooting incident in Protea Glen Ext 4. Thereafter they quickly went to the scene and found four empty cartridges on the ground.

“They noticed a suspicious man walking on foot and they stopped him.

“They searched him and found a 9mm Pistol with serial numbers in his possession.

“The firearm had a magazine with nine(09) live rounds. The suspect failed to produce a firearm license and said it is at his house.

“The police went to his house and he still failed to produce a firearm license. They searched the house and found two (02) 9mm empty magazines and two (02) firearm holsters,” said Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng.

The suspect was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm.

An investigation is underway to check the firearm ownership and to link the firearm with crimes committed in the area. The suspect will appear in the Protea Magistrate’s court.
