Protest against power outage in Snake park
Electricity outages still a growing concern in Soweto.

Protest against Eskom have become a norm in Soweto, yesterday the community of Snake park took it to the street to voice out about prolonged power outage.
Reneiloe Semenya from Eskom explained that the power has been off for a while due to equipment failure. She added that they face problems such as Illegal connections, meter bypass and equipment vandalism.
She stated that in-order they were not able to reach an agreement with the community.
Semenya further explained that if they don’t remove illegal connections before fixing the equipment is going to continue failing especially now that we are fast approaching winter.
She emphasised that it is important to adequately deal with the problem to avoid more illegal connection or tampering with the equipment.

Snake Park Ward (50) residents took to the streets this morning barricading the roads with burning tyres and rocks due to ongoing electricity outages in the area. Residents alleged that they have been without electricity for two years now and were never addressed about the issue.
The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD)Â is currently monitoring the situation.

This protest follows after Eskom announced yesterday that they will start with implementing electricity supply restrictions in Gauteng on areas with significantly high non-technical issues mainly in residential areas.
