34-year-old killed in Mob justice attack in Moletsane, Soweto

The Jabulani police appeal to members of the public to refrain taking law into their own hands.

Jabulani SAPS is investigating a case of murder following the death of a 34-year-old male at the Baragwanath hospital on March, 15. The deceased was allegedly assaulted by the community the day before at Sanna and Makhobo streets, in Moletsane, Soweto.

According to the Jabulani spokesperson Sifiso Mabizela, the brother of the diseased reported that he was informed by the deceased’s girlfriend, that his elder brothers and two other males were attacked and accused of committing a street robbery.

However, the two males managed to escape and flee the scene but his brother was caught and assaulted by the community.

He has then transported in an ambulance to the Baragwanath hospital and the family was informed of his passing on Sunday when they went to the hospital.

Mabizela said no arrest has been made at this stage as the police are following possible leads and appeal to members of the public to refrain taking law into their own hands.

“Further investigation is showing that people are intimidating possible witnesses and might soon face arrest for obstructing of justice and intimidation,” he added.

“Jabulani SAPS can also confirm that the case of robbery which the deceased was killed for has not been reported at this stage and it cannot be said that the deceased died because the community was responding towards a crime,” said Mabizela.
