Daredevil Run raises awareness about prostate cancer

Testing could save your life.

The Hollard Daredevil Run 2020 activation campaign kicked off in Diepkloof this morning.
The run is an imaginative campaign launched 10 years ago to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
The sight of men clad only in purple speedos got all of Diepkloof’s attention during their 5km run and most certainly achieved its aim of educating the community.
The run also managed to raise awareness of the need for men to get tested for the condition-a test that can save lives.

One person who knows only too well the benefit of early testing on a cancer prognosis is Thulani Sibisi.

Sibis’s story brings to life the highs and lows of being diagnosed with the disease.

Sibisi, a  Two Oceans Marathon winner, spoke to supporters about the campaign and the frightening statistics of prostate cancer in South African men.

Current reports state that 1 in 4 men in SA is likely to be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime.

This means that regular screening and consequently -early detection- can not only shorten the duration of the disease but dramatically increases your survival rate.

Sibisi said, “I wonder where I would be if I didn’t disclose after falling sick, people must not take this illness lightly because it can make a person suffer terribly. People must always test and encourage other people to test.”
