Pimville residents reject the establishment of a new church in their area

Pimville Zone 1 residents will meet with delegates from Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa church today to discuss the church’s fate in the community.

Pimville Zone 1 residents along with Councillor Raynett Moabi will meet with the delegates of the Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa church today to discuss the church’s fate in the community.

The 9 days electricity outage in some parts of Pimville Zone 1 sparked questions among the residents when they marched to Apostolic Faith Mission of Africa church to have a look at the cables that were cut-off by a bulldozer last week.

Although power supply has been restored on Monday the residents say they want the church to be moved away from their area. The community members were surprised to find that the church has initiated building processes.

They complained that the church is being built without the community’s approval as they had previously refused the request to use the land.

Ward 32 Raynett Moabi councillor said she held a public participation meeting with the community and two pastors some time ago so that they can get a direct response from the community.

Moabi said she read the request for the community as it was brought before her during the meeting and it suggested that the church bought the land from a private company called Ivory task and they wanted to build a church, she continued.

“The community refused, they said they do not want the church because there are enough churches in the area and the worst part is that those churches do not allow them to use the space and the congress is not even from Pimville,” said Moabi.

Pastor Vusi Shongwe said it is the community’s choice to remove the church in the area but he provided them with title deeds as evidence to show that the church owns the land.

A resident member Phumi Jiyane said they do not dispute that the church has a title deeds but they are not part of the community

“before a church is approved the community has to have a petition and on the final meeting the community objected the idea of the church,” she added.

“We have a foundation meeting with delegates of the church on Thursday they will present their case and we will present our case and I hope we find an amerceable solution because at the end of the day if they bought the space they have to get a refund or we have to come with a solution,” said Jiyane.
