Ward 37 White City residents have a sewage spillage at their homes for three weeks.

The dirty water is not healthy for people living nearby. The Johannesburg Water couldn’t fix the sewerage pipe.

Mbali Mabanga, one of the residents who is affected said it has been three weeks and it’s not healthy for them to live in such environment especially for children.

“Our children in the yard are sick and they cannot play outside because they end up playing with the sewerage.”

Mabanga added that the sewerage doesn’t stop or if one stops another one will burst.

Another resident Bonginkosi Mbatha said the sewage spillage doesn’t only affect his health but his business also as he is self-employed.

He said the dirty water entered his shack where he stores and fix the Television (TV) of his customers and some of the TVs got damaged by the sewage spillage.

“This has affected me so badly because some people had already paid me for their TVs and I have to replace or buy new TVs but where will I get the money because I am self-employed and I make a living through fixing people’s TVs and with the money I earn I have to support my family,” said Mbatha.

Mbatha explained that three people got injured due to sewerage. He further explained that Johannesburg Water came on Friday but they couldn’t assist them because someone built her shack on the sewerage station.

“As the community, we had a meeting and donated R10 for her but still today she hasn’t moved the shack.”

Mbatha concluded, “We need this sewage spillage to be fixed as soon as possible before it can cost more damage and the danger it has already costed us and we need to live in a safe and healthy environment.”
