According to the founder and CEO of the James Mpanza Legacy Foundation Trust, Vuka Tshabalala, the rich history of the school needs to be remembered.

“In my travels, I have seen and met people who have no clue about their heritage. It is important for youngsters to know the heritage of this school and draw strength from it. Hopefully, this can motivate them to try to reach even higher for their goals,” said Tshabalala

The school played host to 1st Annual Orlando High School Lecture that saw the attendance of learners, community members and former learners of the school. The lecture was the latest of a string of celebrations the school hosted for 2019 to celebrate the 80th anniversary.

In May 2019, the high school renamed its library after ABC Motsepe, a former teacher at the school and father to South African billionaire businessman Patrice Motsepe who has just recently been appointed into the board of trustees of the World Economic Forum.

Tshabalala also cited how the celebrating of these Orlando High heroes has helped motivate learners. Orlando High’s matric pass rate jumped from 75% in 2018 to 83, 6 % in 2019.

“It shows in the results that the motivation to work hard is there and the potential to succeed. I believe we (Orlando High) can and will achieve more,” said Tshabalala.
