Meadowlands Keabetwe Monaisa fighting unemployment with his Tekkie wash business
Being unemployed or idle for a long time can affect the individual's motivation but Keabetwe Monaisa from Meadowlands Zone 1 has started his own takkie wash business because he has seen the level of unemployment in the hood is increasing.
Some people have lost hope of ever finding employment. They have given up the search due to lengthy periods of unemployment and numerous rejections.
Being unemployed or idle for a long time can affect the individual’s motivation but Keabetwe Monaisa from Meadowlands Zone 1 has started his own takkie wash business because he has seen the level of unemployment in the hood is increasing and it becomes more difficult for the youth to get jobs.
Monaisa explained that while he was still schooling his friend has always talked about starting something of his own and since they were based in East rand there was a bit of self-drive as there was a similar business that was operating but with time it lost momentum.

“From a young age, I have always loved style and dressing up so when all that came to an end after matriculating I now had to look out for myself as my mother won’t be able to provide for me anymore I had to stand up and also hustle like the rest of the people to maintain my lifestyle.”
“Even though I encountered a few hiccups in my life where I got involved in drugs but had to refrain myself before losing control and that is when my friend introduced me to starting this business,” said Monaise.
He further said, during weekends I would wash my brother’s and uncle’s shoes and month-end they would thank me for helping them and they also praised how good I do this job.
What makes it unique is that Monaise makes sure that his customers are satisfied and give them the required clean smooth happy shoes also making them understand the need to maintain a sneaker.
He has customers who are from Orlando and local celebrities do support this because they believe in him and know that not everyone will make it in life.
