Vuvuzela patrollers ensuring safer routes for morning commuters

Jabulani’s community policing forum continues with the Shapa Vuvuzela project.

The Shappa Vuvuzela project was initiated to address community safety with the aim to protect community members who take off early for work and school, more so to residents who use public transport as they are more exposed to risks.

The Sector managers Captain Balram, Sargent Twala, Constable Ndlovu, along with other officials joined the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in their morning duties to patrol in the area, in order to ensure that people’s safety is not compromised.

The project saw the CPF patrollers along with officials walk through the streets of Zondi, Jabulani, Zola and Moletsane from as early as 04:00 am to 06:30 am.

Jabulani SAPS communication officer, Captain Sifiso Mabizela said the Shappa Vuvuzela project has been very instrumental in the reduction of crime and ensuring people who travel to work, school or home are safe.

He described the team as selfless, dedicated and hardworking community members who sacrifice their sleep and time to save lives along dark passages, and public transport routes.

“Jabulani SAPS can never thank these dedicated members enough.

“It’s amazing and incredible how patriotic and courageous how these members go on every day,” said Mabizela.

According to captain Mabizela, they had guests from Germany, Fabian Weiss and Isabel Stott who were keen on adopting and implementing the concept in Germany.
