Four arrested in Newclare on a case of dealing in drugs and for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The suspects aged from 23 to 28 years were said to have appeared in court on January 16.

Members of the Sophiatown detectives were conducting a tracing of suspects operations in Newclare.

According to the communications officer, Captain Jerbes de Bruyn, at about 5.30 am, a group of detectives were at a flat in Newclare to search for a suspect wanted for robbery.

The occupants of the flat refused to open the door for the police after they identified themselves and the members forcefully opened the door.

“The police found four people inside of which two were females. The wanted suspect was not amongst the four people and the flat was then searched for the suspect.

“While the police were searching for the suspect, they confiscated 97 Mandrax tablets, 29 tablets of dagga, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, one unlicensed Norinco pistol, 2 bags of what is suspected to be drugs and 24 packets of Chlorine acid.

“Also found was one small electronic scale which is suspected to have been used to weigh the drugs,” said de Bruyn.

The report from the Captain also indicates that all four suspects were arrested on a case of dealing in drugs and for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
