UPDATE: January 21, 2020 @09:32

Parents of learners at Tholimfundo primary school located at Protea Glen Ext 3 planned on bringing learning and teaching on a standstill today as they planned on embarking on another protest.

Some parents removed their children from the classrooms as it became chaotic. The complaint has been laid to the department of education concerning the poor infrastructure that learners have to endure while they put their lives at risk. For the past twenty years, there has been no answer to the cry of the community and the school.

Sam Bovu from the premier’s office along with members from the MEC office made their way to the school and addressed the parents.

It was concluded that the school should at least start a project of removing the temporary structures so that a proper school can be built. This is expected to take place during May.

“You can’t call this dam a school” these are the words Phemelo Keupilwe SGB chairperson used to express his frustrations over the poor infrastructure at Tholimfundo Primary School.

Tholimfundo Primary school threatens to shutdown due to poor infrastructure, Keupilwe explained that only half of the school is properly built whereas the other half is made of mobile classes that are not suitable for learners as it is controlled by the weather, when it’s hot the classrooms are also hot.

The School is reaching it’s 20 years anniversary in having poor infrastructure, some classrooms are with no doors, and toilets are broken.

“The health of our learners is at risk, we plead with the department of education to hear our cries and attend to our need and build us a proper school, this will at least appease the learners and community of Protea Glen at large “, said Keupilwe.
